The Vampire Diaries: Season 2 Episode 12 Recap
It's been too long! Last time we were in Mystic Falls, Elena and Elijah came to a deal. Stefan would be able to walk free, with Katherine safely locked away in the vault still, as long as Elijah can keep tabs on Elena so he knows where she is when the Originals needs her. Also, Rose got bit by Mason's wolfy friend. The vampire/wolf war is on!
The new wolf, Jules, wakes up the forest after having a big feast on some campers. She started to put the bodies away when a cop rolls in. I thought she was just going to go along with the "sole survivor thing" but she ended up taking the cop out too. She seems a touch more ruthless than Mason ever did!
Elena and Stefan seem to be happily back together, but Stefan can't just let this deal go on. He's trying to build up a tolerance to vervain, so he'll be ready should any new danger pop up. He's convinced he has to find Isabelle, in order break this deal with Elijah.
Rose is slowly dying from that werewolf bite, or is she? She's 500+ years old and seems to be accepting of her impending death. They were expecting her to die immediately from the bite, but instead it's either a slow process or the legend is wrong. One look at that wound though, and it's pretty obvious that she's going to die from that infecting bite.
Caroline and Tyler survived through the first transformation without a fatality and Tyler is so grateful for her help. There are some definite sparks between them after that strange bonding experience. Matt interrupts their moment to make a confession. He doesn't like the state of things between them, and just swoops in for the kiss. I liked them as a couple! But Caroline knows he's not safe around her and pushes him away.
Now that her mess has been cleaned up, Jules is back to investigating Mason's disappearance. With Alaric on her tail, the gang is constantly up to date on her doings. Stefan starts his search for Isabelle with him, knowing that if anyone had a contact number it'd be him. Isabelle knows Klaus and could be key to protecting Elena.
Elena and Rose's talk about love is so sad. She's never been loved the way Elena has, and it's uncertain if she means loved by Damon or Stefan. She starts hallucinating and reverting to days gone by, murmuring things like "ready the horses" and "we'll never make it before the sun." She starts vomiting blood and just as Elena is about to run out of the room to get help, she attacks her, thinking she's Katherine! With no other vampires in the house, she had to convince her she was Elena without any help. She talks her down, and gets her back into bed.
Damon meets up with Jules at Mystic Grill, to try to get the cure for a wolf bite out of her. The only cure that exists is death, either she dies a slow, drawn out death from the bite, or a mercy killing from the end of the stake. With Elena all alone with her, this could be a very dangerous place for her to be. She finds her downstairs feasting on their blood supply. Of course, Rose's brain is fried and thinks she's Katherine and she can't be talked down this time! She's not relenting and only a burst of sun and some nails to her wolf wound save Elena from her teeth.
Matt won't just accept Caroline's brush off. He needs to know what's going on in her head and why she just ended it with them. She confesses that she loves him, so how is she going to explain why they can't be together? She would have been better off lying to him, for both their feelings sakes!
While Elena holed herself up to protect her, Rose escaped and is now on a rager to feast on blood because it is the only thing that eases the pain of her illness, if only for a little bit. Damon's called in by the Sheriff once a body is discovered and the hunt is on for the demented Rose. I gotta say, that attack on the couple by the car was VERY well done! When she threw that body on the glass, I literally jumped out of my seat! Damon was near enough to stop her, and seeing him brought her mind back for a bit. Back at Chateau Salvatore, Rose is getting worse and exhibiting more painful symptoms. Seriously, Damon just stake her already! It's for the best.
Caroline comes home to find Tyler waiting at her door. Whenever someone opens up a conversation with "We need to talk", you know it's serious. He just doesn't understand why she would risk her life to help him. And once again, she's interrupted with a kiss, but THIS time, she kisses back. But only for a second, before she tells him that he can't do that. While I loved Matt/Caroline, I think she might be better off with another supernatural person. She'd be able to be completely honest with him and wouldn't have to worry about hurting him.
Jules and Tyler finally have a talk about the werewolf curse! She didn't realize just how new he is with the whole werewolf thing. She tells him everything! Now he knows that Caroline and crew are behind Mason's death, he knows that she lied to him about being the only vampire in town, and I'm sure he's going to learn who the other vampires in town are in no time! The clincher though, is that more werewolves are on the way to town. This war is about to be turned to 11!
Damon turns her body over to the Sheriff, to further solidify himself in her's and the town's good graces. At end of his very hard day, Elena is at home waiting for him with a drink. She's trying to be a good friend, but his feelings for Elena make this even worse. He finally confesses that while he didn't care for Rose, he does feel guilty that she died protecting him. It should have been him. That hug between them just as she leaves went on a bit longer than you would expect between friends. Hmmm interesting that.
While Elena was at home waiting for Damon, Stefan was at home waiting for Elena. She gets back only to find Stefan hasn't found Isabelle, but has brought home her Uncle John! It'll be very interesting to see his reasoning behind this, or what John has in mind for the future.
Damon of course got drunk and ends up lying in the middle of the road as bait, waiting for a helpful person to come along for a snack? or for a therapy session? A woman comes along and he has a debate with himself if he should kill her, because he will never be good enough for "her" (ELENA). He confesses his huge dark secret, that he misses being human sooo much. He's never said that out loud before, but he feels it all the time with every fiber of his being. Just when I thought he was going to let her go, he does! But then, runs behind her and rips out her throat. The only times he's come clean about his feelings, he hasn't left someone behind that will remember it.
Next week, we'll see the fallout from the Tyler/Caroline kiss and Uncle John's reappearance. Is it next Thursday yet?!

"You're not going to die."
"That's such a human thing to say."

"Everyone just needs to stop kissing me!"Rose is beautiful as her dream-human self. Is this a dream? Is this a power that vampires have - to go into another's dream? Her afternoon on the hillside with horses has put her at ease and ready for death. She's excited to see her family and Trevor again. Just as there about to race to a tree, Damon stakes her in real life. While he said he didn't care for her, it was a beautiful gesture to make her death as painless as possible. I definitely teared up once we saw that one tear slide down Damon's face. Rose, while I didn't really care for you, you had a good run. You might even be missed.

The CW's Awesome Thursday Night is Back!
I'm seriously shocked by just how much I'm loving The CW's Thursday night. Vampire Diaries is one of my favorite shoes this season, while Nikita is definitely my favorite of the shows that debuted this fall. It's a solid 2 hour block of ass-kicking and intrigue!
Both shows return with new episodes tonight, so be sure to tune in. In the mean time, check out these great articles about the shows and watch the previews below.

Glee's Super Bowl Return!
Despite my disappointment that Glee won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical, I still do enjoy the show. Not as much as I used to, but enough for me to keep watching for the time being at least.
Glee has the plum spot of returning right after the Super Bowl, so expect the ratings numbers to be huge and for Glee to pull out all the stops to get people to stay on that channel. Watch the first promos below:

Pixar's UP gets a "premake"
From Cinematical:
Watch the awesome video below.
What's a premake? It's a reimagined trailer for a popular film made by splicing together footage from dozens of older movies. Featuring dialogue, clever visuals, and all the aesthetic elements of the original feature, premakes are a really neat way to take a look at some of our favorite films in an entirely new, and often hilarious, light.

Sundance: Red State Controversy
The biggest, most talked about news out of Sundance so far has been all the hoopla around Kevin Smith's RED STATE and his "new" distribution model. In lieu of a studio buying his film to market and distribute it, he's opted to take his show on the road. He'll be screening the film one town at a time leading up to its release in October. Tickets for these town screenings won't be like normal movie tickets; they'll be at least $60 but will include some Kevin Smith face time, probably in the form of a Q&A since he loves those.
While I'm no expert, I feel like one pirated copy could thwart the success of this model. But I'll guess we'll see when the time comes.
In the mean time, check out the backlash against Kevin Smith in these articles:

Modern Family: Caught in the Act
I don't normally post whole episodes of shows here, but last night's episode of Modern Family was just so hilarious across the board that I have to post it. Watch and enjoy!
Here are a few of my favorite moments:
Here are a few of my favorite moments:
- Phil always has a hard time articulating himself when Gloria is around, but it went to a whole new level when Gloria was talking about "giving away her cupcakes" and Phil and Clare thought that was a sexual euphimism.
- The cold open for the show was the best one yet. In under a minute, I was howling over Gloria's shocked face that the email sent. "It sended! It sended!....please come back"
- While the Cam/Mitchell storyline was the weakest, it still had a couple hilarious moments. I especially loved when they were trying to make reservations at Amelia's.
- Mitchell: They can take us at 5:45pm...
- Cam: What are we, 80?
- Mitchell: ...or 10:45pm
- Cam: What are we, 20?
- Update: Here's the direct quote from when Gloria is talking about the bake sale, but the Dunphy's think she's talking about sex.
- "It happened to me before with another woman. At that time, I was the one getting it. It hurt. You have to admit that you’re only happy when you’re the one cracking the whip. Come on. We all know how you ride Phil. Let go a little. Maybe even taste my cupcakes. I will join you." --Gloria

TV is back in full swing tonight!
It looks like my Monday nights are going to be very busy this TV season. After the winter hiatus, all the returning shows are starting tonight and all the new shows are on too. Here's what I'll be watching. Don't forget to tune in to your favorite returning shows!
How I Met Your Mother, CBS 8pm
Chuck, NBC 8pm
Also, while it's not in the trailer, I hear Jeffster will have another signature performance! Definitely don't want to miss this.
Being Human, Syfy 9pm
The Cape, NBC 9pm
I'm giving it a few episodes, then I'll decide if I'm going to keep watching or not. I enjoyed the first hour of the pilot (Carnival of Crime!), but it fizzled out in the 2nd hour. So we'll see how this episode fares.

Netflix Watch Instant: The Complete Series of Dollhouse
You missed out on this great show. Don't lie, you know you didn't watch it. I know because no one did. It's ok, I forgive you. Airing in the Friday dead zone, it's totally understandable. But now thanks to Netflix Watch Instant, you can watch this gem of a show that everybody missed.
Dollhouse suffered from taking too long to find it's voice, mainly because of network meddling in yet another great Joss Whedon show. Seriously, you'd think he'd have learned after Firefly, but Eliza Dushku's contract with Fox made it impossible to take this show elsewhere. While at times it was a clunky, flat vehicle for Eliza Dushku, it found it's footing and became an indepth look at what makes a personwho they are, with the recurring theme of what is a soul and if love could really conquer all.
The show could be hit or miss, but when it hit it was the best thing on television that week. Watch a trailer below and then hop over to Netflix and get to marathoning! With only 2 short seasons, it's a fairly quick watch as far as television series go.

My Golden Globe Predictions (Part 1)
This Sunday are the Golden Globes and while there have been a lot of awards given out from critics all over the nation, the Golden Globes are the biggest profile awards before the Oscars. While they aren't exactly predictors of what will win the Golden Statuette come February, it's still fun to predict and theorize. Below my predictions on who will win are in Underlined Italics.
BEST MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
a. BLACK SWAN
b. THE FIGHTER
c. INCEPTION
d. THE KING’S SPEECH
e. THE SOCIAL NETWORK
With THE SOCIAL NETWORK picking up award after award, I really think it will come out victorious for the Golden Globes and ultimately, the Oscar. Although, given that this is the Hollywood Foreign Press that votes for the winners, I could see the crowd pleaser, England centered THE KING'S SPEECH edging it out.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE -DRAMA
a. HALLE BERRY, FRANKIE AND ALICE
b. NICOLE KIDMAN, RABBIT HOLE
c. JENNIFER LAWRENCE, WINTER’S BONE
d. NATALIE PORTMAN, BLACK SWAN
e. MICHELLE WILLIAMS, BLUE VALENTINE
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
a. JESSE EISENBERG, THE SOCIAL NETWORK
b. COLIN FIRTH, THE KING’S SPEECH
c. JAMES FRANCO, 127 HOURS
d. RYAN GOSLING, BLUE VALENTINE
e. MARK WAHLBERG, THE FIGHTER
BEST MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL
a. ALICE IN WONDERLAND
b. BURLESQUE
c. THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
d. RED
e. THE TOURIST
I really don't know how most of these movies were nominated. The HFPA strikes again! BURLESQUE, THE TOURIST, and ALICE IN WONDERLAND were all panned by critics. And while I enjoyed RED, I definitely don't think it should be a part of any award discussion. I think the winner here is obvious.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR
MUSICAL
a. ANNETTE BENING, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
b. ANNE HATHAWAY, LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS
c. ANGELINA JOLIE, THE TOURIST
d. JULIANNE MOORE, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
e. EMMA STONE, EASY A
I'm glad to see Emma Stone and EASY A getting recognized, but again I think THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT is the only true award contender in this category. If the two leads end up splitting the vote, I could see Angelina Jolie grabbing a surprise win. She's an international star and the HFPA did love THE TOURIST.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY
OR MUSICAL
a. JOHNNY DEPP, ALICE IN WONDERLAND
b. JOHNNY DEPP, THE TOURIST
c. PAUL GIAMATTI, BARNEY’S VERSION
d. JAKE GYLLENHAAL, LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS
e. KEVIN SPACEY, CASINO JACK
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
a. DESPICABLE ME
b. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
c. THE ILLUSIONIST
d. TANGLED
e. TOY STORY 3
BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
a. BIUTIFUL (MEXICO/SPAIN)
b. THE CONCERT (FRANCE)
c. THE EDGE (RUSSIA)
d. I AM LOVE (ITALY)
e. IN A BETTER WORLD (DENMARK)
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A
MOTION PICTURE
a. AMY ADAMS, THE FIGHTER
b. HELENA BONHAM CARTER, THE KING’S SPEECH
c. MILA KUNIS, BLACK SWAN
d. MELISSA LEO, THE FIGHTER
e. JACKI WEAVER, ANIMAL KINGDOM
I've only seen BLACK SWAN of the films these ladies are nominated for, but awards love when an actress breaks out and goes against type.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A
MOTION PICTURE
a. CHRISTIAN BALE, THE FIGHTER
b. MICHAEL DOUGLAS, WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS
c. ANDREW GARFIELD, THE SOCIAL NETWORK
d. JEREMY RENNER, THE TOWN
e. GEOFFREY RUSH, THE KING’S SPEECH
BEST DIRECTOR - MOTION PICTURE
a. DARREN ARONOFSKY, BLACK SWAN
b. DAVID FINCHER, THE SOCIAL NETWORK
c. TOM HOOPER, THE KING’S SPEECH
d. CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, INCEPTION
e. DAVID O. RUSSELL, THE FIGHTER
This is a tough one because I think BLACK SWAN, THE SOCIAL NETWORK, and THE KING'S SPEECH are all strong contenders for the major awards. Which is why I think they'll end up splitting them instead of one film sweeping the major categories. TSN will take Best Picture, BLACK SWAN will get Best Director, and Aaron Sorkin will get Best Screenplay.
BEST SCREENPLAY - MOTION PICTURE
a. DANNY BOYLE, 127 HOURS
SIMON BEAUFOY
b. LISA CHOLODENKO, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
STUART BLUMBERG
c. CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, INCEPTION
d. DAVID SEIDLER, THE KING’S SPEECH
e. AARON SORKIN, THE SOCIAL NETWORK
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE - MOTION PICTURE
a. ALEXANDRE DESPLAT, THE KING’S SPEECH
b. DANNY ELFMAN, ALICE IN WONDERLAND
c. A.R. RAHMAN, 127 HOURS
d. TRENT REZNOR,THE SOCIAL NETWORK
ATTICUS ROSS
e. HANS ZIMMER, INCEPTION
BEST ORIGINAL SONG - MOTION PICTURE
a. “BOUND TO YOU” — BURLESQUE
Music by: Samuel Dixon
Lyrics by: Christina Aguilera, Sia Furler
b. “COMING HOME” — COUNTRY STRONG
Music & Lyrics by: Bob DiPiero, Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey, Troy Verges
c. “I SEE THE LIGHT” — TANGLED
Music by: Alan Menken
Lyrics by: Glenn Slater
d. “THERE’S A PLACE FOR US” — CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE
VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER
Music & Lyrics by: Carrie Underwood, David Hodges, Hillary Lindsey
e. “YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE LAST OF ME” — BURLESQUE
Music & Lyrics by: Diane Warren
This may be wishful thinking on my part, but TANGLED was the best non-Pixar Disney flick in a while and deserves to be recognized. While I think TOY STORY 3 has Best Animated on lock, this song captured a beautiful moment in the film.

11 Minute Preview of Off the Map
ABC really wants people to watch their midseason medical drama Off the Map. They've put the first 11 minutes up on hulu to lure you in to watching the premiere tonight. Watch the first act of the show below:
This isn't really my cup of tea, but if you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy this show is definitely for you!
Off the Map premieres tonight on ABC at 10pm.

This wasn't the Glee/So You Think You Can Dance dance off I was hoping for, but it's still a pretty entertaining 3 minute short.

Wow, I Feel Old...
I'm only 24 years old, technology I grew up with should not be so archaic that kids don't even know what it is! But yet, that's how quickly technology moves. Watch these French school children as they try to guess what these "ancient"gadgets were used for.

The Cape Premieres Tonight on NBC
The Cape was one of my most anticipated midseason shows; on paper, it's everything I love. However, after a slew of negative reviews, I'm a bit hesitant and am going in with lowered expectations. One of my favorite critics did love it, so there's still hope. She's just in the minority.
Regardless of the negative buzz, I'm going to check it out to judge for myself. I've only seen the previews and now these opening credits, but already I approve. I'm a huge lover of television opening credit sequences, and hate that it's been slowly dying out over the past few years. Check out the awesome comic book inspired credits for The Cape:
Tune in to the 2 hour premiere tonight, January 9 at 9pm. It's also replaying tomorrow, January 10 at 9pm after a Chuck rerun.

Inception meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Inception and Eternal Sunshine both focus on playing with the mind. That's why this mash up works so well together.
I'm sorry for the lack of updates these past few days! I've been sick, which is a pretty bad way to start off the new year. Oh well, I'm feeling better today and should be back to 100% soon!
Expect posting to resume as usual :)

Jim Carrey on SNL, Saturday 1/8/11
Jim Carrey hasn't hosted since the mid 1990s and I'm stoked to see him back in his sketch/live/improv-y roots!
The Black Keys will be performing as well, so it should be a great show.
Tune in on Saturday, January 8 at 11:30pm.

Today's Pop Culture Musical Moments
Overnight, there seemed to be a lot of awesome pop culture related musical moments. Don't know what I'm talking about? Well, watch the videos below and you'll be in the know!
Gwyneth Paltrow Duets with Jimmy Fallon
Josh Groban sings Kanye West's Best Tweets
The Muppets do their own version of Kanye West's track Monster
Kanye West is proving to be ripe parody material, STILL. He's like the tree that just keeps on giving.

My Spring 2011 TV Schedule
There are a whole slew of new midseason shows, some of which I've profiled. With all the changes to the TV landscape, I figured I'll lay out just what shows I'll be watching (and therefore probably posting about.)
Mondays
8pm: Chuck (NBC)
While this season hasn't been my favorite, it's still a whole lot of fun to watch. While its ratings have never been stellar, it's become the anchor show on NBC's weak Monday night lineup. Will that be enough for it to get another season renewal? It's still too early to tell...
8pm: How I Met Your Mother (CBS)
This season has been a steady rise over a weak season 5. The hook of Ted telling the story of how he met his wife has me hook, line, and sinker. I'll be watching this show to the bitter end if it comes to that.
9pm: Being Human (SyFy)
I just posted about this in one of my midseason previews. My most anticipated new show! A werewolf, ghost, and werewolf are 20-something roommates. Hijink and drama ensue.
Tuesdays
8pm: Glee (FOX)
This is the most erratic show on television. For every 3 episodes of mediocrity bordering on crap, there's 1 that I love and keeps my watching. If that ratio gets worse, I may just give up on it but for now I'm in for at leas the rest of the season. And with the ratings stronger than ever and a plum post-SuperBowl timeslot, it's going to be on for a while.
Wednesdays
8pm: Live to Dance with Paula Abdul (CBS)
I'm a sucker for dance shows. I'm covering this for RealityWanted.com, so check it out :)
9pm: Modern Family (ABC)
Still the most hilarious show on television. I'm not a part of the Community fervor, maybe one day when I catch it on DVD, but for now all my comedy love belongs to Modern Family and Cougar Town.
9:30pm: Mr. Sunshine (ABC)
Taking over Cougar Town's spot for a while, I'll be tuning in to see if Matthew Perry is still my favorite Friend.
9:30pm: Cougar Town (ABC)
If you wrote this show off because of the title, or after the first few episodes, please give it another shot! It's hilarious, smart, and has tons of heart while we follow this family of misfit friends.
10pm: Off the Map (ABC)
I'm not much for medical shows anymore (I used to be a huge fan of Grey's and House) but I do love exotic locations. Plus, a friend of mine worked on the show so if it gets picked up for a full season or more, my friend gets to keep his job! So everybody watch :)
Thursdays
8pm: The Vampire Diaries (CW)
I don't think I need to espouse my love for the show anymore.
8pm: The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
This season has been off with the whole Penny/Leonard and Sheldon/Amy, but I'm in til the end of the season, at least.
8pm: Bones (FOX)
Damn you David Boreanez! You're just so charismatic! The chemistry between Booth and Bones reached a major head in the fall finale of The Doctor in the Photo. It was the best episode of the season and I can't wait to see where things go from here between them.
8:30pm: Perfect Couples (NBC)
While the sneak preview episode wasn't great, I'm going to give it another shot just because of the cast. I love Olivia Munn and the It's Always Sunny Waitress finally gets a real role!
9pm: Nikita (CW)
My favorite new show of the season, the action has been nonstop and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
Sundays
9pm: The Cape (NBC)
While this has been panned by many of the critics who got early screeners, I'm still hopeful. It's supposed to be like a comic book come to life and maybe those critics just didn't get/appreciate that aspect? It's superheroes and Summer Glau, of course I'll be tuning in.
What will you lot be watching this season? Anything you think I should give a chance?
Also, in case you missed it, here's a handy list of all the midseason premiere dates and times.

Midseason Preview: Being Human
From SyFy:
Meet vampire "Aidan" (Sam Witwer), werewolf "Josh" (Sam Huntington) and ghost "Sally" (Meaghan Rath), three paranormal, 20-something roommates living in Boston and struggling with living double lives as they try to be human.
Being Human debuts on Syfy Monday, Jan. 17, at 9/8C.
This is quickly becoming my most anticipated January premiere! It's got everything I love (vampires, werewolves, 20-something drama, alter egos/double lives!) all in one place. Will you guys be tuning in?

James Marsden on Modern Family
Modern Family returns on Jan. 5! The first episode features a great guest spot from James Marsden ("X-Men") as Cam and Mitchell's new neighbor Barry. While he's a sketchy neighbor, his ability to look good in a swimsuit more than makes up for him stealing time in their hot tub.
