Advance Review: Buried

It would have made Hitchcock proud

I saw a sneak peek of Buried at USC earlier this week, was really glad I got the opportunity. It was a tightly wound, suspenseful film that kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire 95 minutes. Ryan Reynolds may be known for his good looks and roles in The Proposal and Van Wilder, but this film finally made me see him as a truly talented dramatic actor. He caries the entire film and I believed his terror and will to survive completely.

It's a tightly paced film with a new twist or complication to up the ante every few minutes. As if being buried alive isn't enough, he has to deal with terrorists, ransom, elements of nature, a war happening just a few feet above him, and so much more. My heart was pounding the whole time!

There's a reason this was the first distribution deal from Sundance. I highly recommend you see it when it comes out on October 8.

RED: "Restless" Clip

One of the highlights of Comic-Con  for me was the Red panel by Summit. I hadn't heard anything about the film or the comic book series it's based on, so everything was news to me. With a stellar cast of Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis, and Morgan Freeman, I'm surprised this isn't getting more of a marketing push.

Summit's official synopsis:
Frank (Bruce Willis), Joe (Morgan Freeman), Marvin (John Malkovich) and Victoria (Helen Mirren) used to be the CIAs top agents but the secrets they know just made them the Agencys top targets. Now framed for assassination, they must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers and stay alive. To stop the operation, the team embarks on an impossible, cross-country mission to break into the top-secret CIA headquarters, where they will uncover one of the biggest conspiracies and cover-ups in government history.

Summit released this clip of Helen Mirrin discussing how the retired life can make her a little restless:
