Toast To THE Douchebag: Kanye West’s Greatest Songs

By Kevin Taylor

Kanye West is an asshole. There is no need to sugar coat it. He’s a douche bag, and I don’t like douche bags. I don’t like douchebags in real life. I don’t like douchebag drivers, athletes, actors, or singers. But I love Kanye West. It says a lot about his musical talents that I love him so much given his personality. So I decided to create a bracket.

I got the idea after reading a fantastic article, where this guy did a top 64 March Madness style bracket of Jay-Z songs. I’m a huge Kanye fan, so I thought it would be fun to do the same. Me and my buddy A-Rod met up and did our own brackets, and this article is about mine. Alittle background on the bracket before we get started.

We decided on 48 songs. We felt that 64 was too many considering how many songs Kanye has released, but we also thought that 32 was too few considering how many great songs he has. We settled on 48, with the top 4 seeds in each bracket getting a bye. The main drawback of this is that it gives most of Kanye's radio hits byes to the next round while his album songs duke it out early. But the more Kanye, the better. We then ranked the songs by the number of youtube views. Without further ado, here is the official Kanye West bracket.

Album Representation
The College Dropout: 8
Late Registration: 10
Graduation: 11
808s and Heartbreak: 5
My Dark Twisted Fantasy: 9
Watch The Throne: 5

We broke the brackets down by college year, since Kanye’s first few albums were named after college terms. We will start with the senior bracket.

BONUS Music Monday: Monster by Kanye West featuring Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, & Jay-Z

From Entertainment Weekly's Tumblr:

“The following content is in no way to be interpreted as misogynistic or negative towards any groups of people. It is an art piece and should be taken as such.”
As EW’s Kyle Anderson writes, “In reality, that opening sentence”—which precedes the full video for Kanye West’s “Monster”—”will be way more incendiary than anything in the actual clip. Just because something is ‘an art piece’ doesn’t let it off the hook for misogyny. And not allowing people to even enter into a conversation about whether or not it offends women is, in itself, sort of misogynistic.” Do you agree?

See the video for yourself, after the break.

Key of Awesome: Kanye West - Monster ft. Nicki Minaj Parody

Key of Awesome have come out with another music parody and it's already got over 2 million views. This time they take down Kanye West's Monster, as well as Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Regis Philbin, and Sesame Street's Cookie Monster. Let's face it, he's got the most Monster experience of the crew, so I'm glad they showed him some respect!

Wait, there's nothing shooting out of Katy Perry's chest in her latest music video?

I'm actually really surprised with the lack of cleavage and exploding bosoms in this music video! In her last two videos, she had candy and then fireworks shooting out of her chest. I really expected an alien or something to explode out of her chest; it had the makings to be her trademark in music videos!

But besides the lack of cleavage and blasting bosom, I really like this song and music video. I featured this song a while go on a Music Monday, so I've been waiting for the video. It's got two of my favorite Top 40 artists, so how could I not like it? Check out the trippy alien video after the break and let me know what you think in the comments.

Kanye's "All the Lights" New Video

I've got a pretty busy weekend celebrating the fiance's birthday with a spa day, birthday party tonight, and then birthday dinner, so there probably won't be many posts until Tuesday. To hold you over, here's Kanye's latest music video!

It takes a while for the song to start, opening with a little girl walking through a snowy Chicago in black and white. Then, all of the lights start flashing and the song kicks off in all its awesomeness. Rihanna's barely-even-considered-a-bra "shirt" is the only thing I don't like about this video.

"E.T." by Katy Perry with Kanye West

God, I kind of hate how much I love Katy Perry. It's just so damn catchy! Then you throw in Kanye and you know I'm sold. I was sold before I even finished listening to 4 minute song.

Kanye West is a Machine!

After his hiatus from the music business, when he interrupted Taylor Swift at the VMA's last year, Kanye has some catching up to do. He has apparently vowed to release a new single or remix every week from now until Christmas. So far he's right on track! Check out the tracks below and let me know which one is your favorite in the comments!

Power (Remix) featuring Jay-Z and Swizz Beats

Runaway Love by Justin Bieber featuring Kanye West and Raekwon

We Were Once a Fairytale

I have no idea what I just watched. This short film starring Kanye West, directed by Spike Jonze starts out with a Kanye we're all familar with - drinking and clubbing and loving life. Then things take a turn for the strange, which is to be expected of Jonze's work. I really don't want to give it all away and take away from the experience of watching this short for yourself. So check it out. And if you have any insights into the deeper meanings that might lie within, please share!
