The Best Part of the Oscars: Autotune
Well, the "young and hip" Oscars sure were something. James Franco seemed high or uninterested most of the time, Anne Hathaway tried to make up for it by being extra perky, and the winners were pretty predictable.
Since you've read my blog, I'm sure you can guess what my favorite part of the ceremony was. Autotune the Oscars!
The Harry Potter and Twilight segments are my favorite.

Ke$ha's "Blow" Music Video with James Van Der Memes
This music video is all kinds of awesome ridiculousness with James Van Der Beek, unicorn people, and rainbow laser guns. Yeah, take a second to reread that. JUST WATCH:
If you're wondering where the heck James Van Der Beek has been, he's been keeping busy between TV guest spots on shows (like How I Met Your Mother) by creating a slew of viral memes at JamesVanDerMemes.com and working with Funny or Die on some hilarious videos like DILF Khakis:
He's been making a splash on twitter (@vanderjames) and even took over the @funnyordie feed for a while. He's really got the viral internet thing on lock, which I guess explains how the Ke$ha video happened. Why else would he be there?
For more insight into his role and just how he got to this place in his career, check out this interview he did with EW's Popwatch blog.

Leaked Two and a Half Men Finale
With all the madness going on with Charlie Sheen, CBS, and Warner Bros, it's looking pretty bad for the future of the show. Just take a look at this leaked segment from what might end up being the series finale:

One week til the Oscars!
I can't believe the Oscars are only a week away. Where does the time go?
James Franco and Anne Hathaway have an uphill battle, trying to inject the awards with some youth and humor. Based off the promotional materials, I think they're on the right track. Watch their commercial:
James Franco also got some advice from comedy movie extraordinaire Judd Apatow:
This could pay off big or fail miserably. I can't wait to see the award show!

Kanye's "All the Lights" New Video
I've got a pretty busy weekend celebrating the fiance's birthday with a spa day, birthday party tonight, and then birthday dinner, so there probably won't be many posts until Tuesday. To hold you over, here's Kanye's latest music video!
It takes a while for the song to start, opening with a little girl walking through a snowy Chicago in black and white. Then, all of the lights start flashing and the song kicks off in all its awesomeness. Rihanna's barely-even-considered-a-bra "shirt" is the only thing I don't like about this video.

Vampire Diaries: Season 2 Episode 15 Recap
This week's episode was full of twists, turns, and even a fair share of murders. I was finally able to watch the show live, so check out my full recap below.
With the werewolves out of town, the Salvatores can focus on killing Elijah and saving Elena from his plan. However, through the new journals, we find out that Jonathon Gilbert's death was at Stefan Salvatore's hands. While I thought this would be a big issue, Stefan quickly explained his side, filled with flashbacks!
Jenna's showing Elijah around town and Alaric is not comfortable with that. Apparently, the founding families didn't really found anything, it was actually settled by people who ran away from the Salem witch trials.
Bonnie and Jeremy, I'm totally on board with them now in case you missed that, are SO cute. I loved that he stood up to get Luka out of her face. That was some pretty heavy magic she did in order to get the information out of him and for him to not remember any of it. I wonder if there's some magic he can use to access what really happened?
Katherine looks dreadful in that cave, all ashy and dead-dead looking, not undead looking. Apparently, she's trapped in there forever if Elijah dies, so she's willing to promise anything to get Damon to get her out before he kills him. I'm siding with Damon on this, as soon as she gets out she's gone, regardless of the debt she owes him.
To start on his plan to destroy Elijah, Damon orchestrates to have a dinner party at his place with Elijah, Jenna, Alaric, and his new lady friend. However, the plan gets off to a shaky start with Uncle Jon crashing to partake in the "games." Elijah shares stories of the witches being burned so the founding fathers could claim the town. Then, just as they're about to go to the study, Elena and Stefan learn in the Gilbert journals that if any demon wields the dagger they'll die as well. Jon had planned to get rid of Damon and Elijah in one fell swoop. But luckily, they reach Alaric in time and get him to put the stabbing on hold. Just when I thought they'd have to kill him another day, Alaric stabs Elijah from behind. God, this show always shocks me with the brutality of the fights and murders. I LOVE IT. And then, they throw in another curve when it turns out that the dagger has to stay in place for an Original to die, so of course when Damon goes back to the body, Elijah is gone and safely with his warlock.
Bonnie comes over to go over what the learned last night from Luka, only to discover an overly romantic atmosphere with the living room full of candles. While Jeremy is completely ready to just jump into this relationship, Bonnie wants to talk to Elena first to make sure she's ok with her dating her younger brother. While I understand it, I don't agree with her descision to seek approval first. They were playing with magic, channeling fire and just when things started to get intimate, daddy warlock came in and stole Bonnie's powers because of what she did to Luka. Can you DO that!?
Elijah found Elena in the cabin, pretty easily. Luckily, there was enough time for Damon to come to the cabin to drop off the dagger, so when Elena was negotiating, she planned to stab herself the whole time. She lured him in and just when I thought they had worked out a new deal, she stabbed him in the heart. Stabbed to death twice in one night! This time, it looks like he'll stay dead though.
To cap off the episode, Damon returns home to find Katherine in his shower. Turns out, killing Elijah broke his compulsion, so instead of trapping in there forever she's free to roam.
Now that Elijah's dead, how do they plan on dealing when Klaus inevitably comes to town? There seems to be just the one dagger and that's going to be staying in Elijah for quite some time. I'm sure we'll find out soon, it never takes too long for Mystic Falls to get into trouble again. There's never a dull moment, and that's why I love it.

However, through the new journals, we find out that Jonathon Gilbert's death was at Stefan Salvatore's hands. While I thought this would be a big issue, Stefan quickly explained his side, filled with flashbacks!
I love the flashback episodes, they always reveals so much about our lovable vampires. Stefan was once worse than Damon is now, drinking and killing for the fun of it, wallowing in guilt. It's hard to imagine the nice, boring guy Stefan had such a dark streak but that's what living for hundreds of years can do to a person: they can change. Apparently Lexi, his best friend who Damon killed in Season 1, is the reason he started to change to the Stefan we know today. She tried to teach him how to let feelings back in, to embrace those human emotions because being able to love is worth all the pain that comes back with it.

So with movies getting promoted earlier and earlier, these guys just couldn't wait to see their most anticipated films in theaters. From Blastr:
Gary Shore, who happens to be a commercial and music video director (but hey, he's still a fan) filmed some storyboards showing Wolverine taking on those evil ninjas known as the Hand and laid an evocative soundtrack on top of it.Great video and a beautiful take on Wolverine. While this is definitely on the high-end of "fan-made" videos, you can still tell this guy is a huge fan. Maybe Daran Aronofsky could take a note from this when working on his Wolverine sequel.

Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae Announce "Hooligans in Wondaland" Tour
This morning, Bruno Mars announced an awesome new tour with Janelle Monae. While I've been obsessively listening to Bruno Mars for a while now, I also adore Janelle's "Tightrope" and other retro-style tracks. They both draw upon motown and doo-wop to infuse their modern tracks and this could be a concert duo that will blow the roof off the venues.
Don't believe me? Just watch their awesome Grammy's performance:
They haven't announced dates yet, but if they're coming to LA (and really, why wouldn't they?) I'll be there!

Vampire Diaries: Season 2 Episode 14 Thoughts
Man, I am really slacking on these Vampire Diaries recaps lately. Sorry, but Thursdays have been busy lately!
While most fans have seen the episode ready and had a few days to digest what happened, I just have a couple things to add to the conversation.
I am tired of Elena's quest to be a martyr and it looks like Stefan is finally picking up on her death wish. While Elijah promised to protect her friends, he made no such promise about her and she knew it. She was willing to die as long as everyone else is okay, and while that's noble in thought, it's a pretty stupid strategy to go with right off the bat. She hasn't even tried to get out of being a sacrifice! Good martyr's don't just lie down and die, they fight for their lives and what they believe in.
The Tyler/Caroline story seems to have run its course and I'm actually really happy with the resolution. She was there to help him through, but I still love the idea of Matt/Caroline. They were cute together before, and I think she needs a normal guy while she is still new to this whole vampire thing. I do love Vlada's (@stayingin) observation that Caroline/Stefan will be the couple in the end after everyone is dead, but for now she'll make things work with Matt and he'll have Elena. I'm surprised Tyler opted to leave with Jules, but with Caroline refusing to talk to him he really didn't have a choice. I hope he and the werewolves come back, because this war is far from over.
I'm 100% on board with Jeremy/Bonnie now. If you read my reviews from earlier episodes, you know how torn I was on Bonnie/Jeremy when their feelings first started. I mean, that's Bonnie's best friend's YOUNGER BROTHER. As an older sister, I know how I would feel if my friend's started being interested in my brother, and I just wasn't feeling them. But the more they've been there for each other through these trials and dangerous situations, the more I've believed their chemistry. And while Jeremy is the younger brother, there really isn't much of an age difference. He's grown up a lot since the beginning of the show, and I definitely think he's a better match for her than the new warlock in town. When they finally kissed at the episode's end, I was surprised by how much I was actually rooting for it to happen.
Overall, this was a strong episode that the past few have been leading to. I'm interested to see where things go from her with the werewolves out of the picture for now, but with Elijah very much further cemented in their lives.

My TV Heroines' (Potential) Returns to the Small Screen
I am a huge, and I mean HUGE, fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I rewatched the entire series with my roommate last year, and continue to watch the reruns when they come up on LOGO or Chiller or TNT. It is one of my favorite TV shows of all time.
So the news that Sarah Michelle Gellar is starring in a pilot, and therefore potentially going to be invading my living room once a week again, I couldn't be happier! She's set to star in the pilot for THE RINGER.
The details of the show were just revealed last week, in a interview with the creator:
Now, SMG's return to TV would be enough to satisfy my genre loving heart, but Kristen Bell was cast in a pilot too! Veronica Mars will be at it again! While SMG has just been MIA since the end of Buffy, choosing to focus on her family, Kristen Bell has been in awful movie after awful movie with no hope in sight of a quality role worthy of her talents. Until now!
Cast in the Showtime pilot HOUSE OF LIES, which is a dark comedy about "dueling corporate management consulting firms" it already sounds like it has more promise than her last few movie roles combined. She has always excelled on the small screen from her starring role in Veronica Mars to even her guest spots on Heroes and Party Down. While not many details are out, it's already fairly certain it'll get picked up.
And lastly, while she isn't from a genre show or a crime/demon fighting heroine, I do have a soft spot for Rachel Bilson, The OC's Summer. She didn't fight baddies, but she had sass, class, and knew what she wanted. While I didn't stick with The OC through its entire run, it's first season was a mild obsession of mine when it started. Rachel has also suffered from not getting great movie roles, like the upcoming dreadful WAITING FOR FOREVER.
Well, the smalls screen has been much kinder to her with The OC and a guest spots on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and CHUCK. It's through her spot on Chuck, that she's now a part of Josh Schwartz' new project, HART OF DIXIE. Hart Of Dixie is a comedic drama centered on a young New York City doctor (Bilson) who inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town inhabited by an eclectic and eccentric group of characters. While it doesn't sound like my cup of tea right away, since it's by Josh Schwartz I'm keeping an open mind. If it's more CHUCK than GOSSIP GIRL, it's golden.
I'm so excited to see some of my favorite TV actresses return to the medium that made them famous. Here's hoping their pilots go through and we get a strong TV season in Fall 2011!

The details of the show were just revealed last week, in a interview with the creator:
'The Ringer,' says Traugott, is "an edgy thriller about redemption and about revenge. There's a point of view of two twin sisters [Bridget and Siobhan] who grew apart over a tragedy in their past. And one seeks redemption and the other one seeks revenge."
Bridget is seeking redemption, and has had a troubled life. When her "fancy pants" twin sister, Siobhan, dies in a boating accident she takes over her life, only to discover that there's a hit out on her sibling. Gellar will play both parts and Traugott says viewers will get to see "a lot of different layers" to her character(s).That definitely doesn't sound your average Lawyer/Doctor/Cop drama! I can see why she would be attracted to the project, and with writing talent from the critically loved yet hardly watched CW hit, Supernatural, it should be a strong contender to air during next season's line up

My Favorite Super Bowl Ads
Overall, I thought it was a pretty weak selection of ads this year. There was a whole lot of can throwing, iPhone close ups, and just overall boring spots that faded from memory as soon as the game came back on. However, there were a few bright spots.
Captain America: The First Avenger
While Thor and Pirates of the Caribbean 4 gave us footage we'd all seen before, this gave us some wholly new clips and did not disappoint.
Star Wars Kid for Volkswagon
I was a bit miffed that commercials were coming out before the game (way to kill the suspense!) but this ad still proved to be among the best after all was said and done.
Bridgestone's Reply All Fiasco
Who hasn't worried about this very disaster occurring? Well, this tire would help you drive fast and accurately enough to stop everyone from reading that email.
NFL Super Bowl ad using old TV Shows
As a huge TV fan, I loved that they used these clips from older shows to illustrate just how the Super Bowl, and football in general is integrated into our culture. Plus, looking back at these old shows just made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Captain America: The First Avenger
While Thor and Pirates of the Caribbean 4 gave us footage we'd all seen before, this gave us some wholly new clips and did not disappoint.

SNL Highlight: Wayne's World's Oscar PIcks
While not quite as funny as it could have been, I did love their Oscar talk and Garth's comment on his age.
ps. Enjoy the Super Bowl! I'll be sure post my favorite ads after the game.

SNL Highlight: The Roommate with Justin Bieber
This is bound to be better than the actual movie.

SNL Highlight: Church Chat with Justin Bieber
I'm so glad they brought back this classic character and it lived up to its hilarious reputation. It was funny when the Kardashians came out, and Snooki too, but the best was when Justin Bieber came out and the Church Lady was tested like never before.

Save Chuck Fan Video
This is 3 minutes of epic, awesomeness. This season of Chuck hasn't been the strong, with lots of ups and downs, but I'm still hoping it gets another season.

Vampire Diaries: Season 2 Episode 13 Thoughts
I don't have time for the full recap, but here are some thoughts on tonight's awesome episode.
- Damon trying to deal with being the "good guy" now, dealing with real emotions and caring about others - it's just so heartbreaking.
- Who is the Brady character that Jules is kissing? She says Tyler can trust her, that she's there for him as a werewolf mentor of sorts, but it certainly looking like she has ulterior motives.
- Jeremy's back! I didn't even realize he was missing last week, woops. I hope he gets more to do in the coming episodes, he had barely one line this week!
- Jenna certainly has some strange family ties with John and Alaric's deceased wife being Elena's birth parents.
- HOLY SHIT, POOR CAROLINE! After locking her in the cage, this Brady guy just shoots her again. And again! These wooden bullets are brutal. Then to top it off, his a squirt gun full of vervain spiked water that he used just for fun....The torture scenes were brutal, Candice Accola did a stellar job this week.
- The entire fight scene in the woods was just fantastic. Damon just RIPPED out a heart! Stefan was catching stakes out of the air. But then the tide turned and just when it seemed like they were doomed, the werewolves all suffered from crippling headaches that knocked them out cold. The new warlock in town was there, upholding Elijah's promise to keep Elena and her friends safe.
- That warlock is dam powerful.
You need to stop doing that.
What?
Assuming I'll be the better man because it's YOU who's asking.
- Somehow John knows how to kill an Original. Isabelle was very thorough in her vampire research. Apparently, she's working on something that, should it work, the Originals will never set foot in Mystic Falls.
- The other wolves didn't know Mason was staying for the moonstone. But now that they've found out, you can be sure they'll be sticking around to pick up the search again.
- This week ended with another Damon confession. With the help of compulsion, he's able to confess his feelings to her, and then feed, once again leaving no witness to his moment of weakness.
- I hope whatever John is after comes to light soon, I need to know why he came back and why Stefan was supposed to bring back Isabelle.
Next week, the wolf/vamp battle continues as they start the search for the Moonstone.

The BRIDESMAIDS are coming!
I'm really looking forward to this flick. With amazing comedy talent both in front of (Kristen Wiig) and behind (Judd Apatow!) the camera, this is looking to be the best female comedy in years.
For more on the flick, check out Gordon and the Whale.
