The Vampire Diaries: Season 2 Episode 4 Recap

Last week we learned about werewolves and Caroline dealt with her vampirism. This week, it's all about Katherine and Stefan's past and alleged undying love.

Katherine manipulates Stefan's dreams to start the discussion of the night of the first founder's day ball. We've seen this very night before, but never from Katherine's POV.

The Lockwoods spearheaded the campaign to rid the town of vampires. It wasn't the founding fathers who did it, it was werewolves. George Lockwood was trouble, but luckily Katherine knew just how to manipulate him as well.

"We both know I could rip you to shreds and do my nails at the same time."

A new bit of werewolf mythology came out tonight too. Not everyone who carries the werewolf gene becomes one; it needs to be triggered.  Mason revealed that in order to turn, you had to kill someone. I wonder who he killed! I understand George Lockwood turning, he was in the civil war, but Mason didn't fight in any war. I wonder if it was something like vehicular manslaughter, would that count? And if that is the only trigger, what's the deal with the moonstone? Katherine was able to plan the entire vampire round up and her escape based on the power of that stone.

"They mainly exist in books and really bad movies."

Stefan used his feelings to literally stab Katherine in the back. The dungeon that Damon became so familiar with in the first season is back in play. Katherine used her captive audience to reminisce about old times. Back in the day, Stefan confessed his love without being compelled. It was real for both of them, can the same be said for Damon?

What man in town doesn't have a romantic past or interest in Jenna?

Mason and Damon didn't have to be enemies. Mason didn't want to carry on the feud, but since Damon couldn't let it go and stabbed him, it's on now! He could give Damon a run for his money, I mean he did kill someone before the werewolf thing even started. He's got a past and I'm very interested in learning more.

All the big build up and buzz about Katherine and Elena meeting face-to-face for the first time and I got to say, I'm a little disappointed. All we got was one line exchange: "Why do we look alike?" "You're asking the wrong question."

Katherine keeps confessing her love for Stefan, and had Caroline work as her minion to drive a wedge between Stefan and Elena. She stalled Elena while Katherine and Stefan took a walk down Memory Lane and argued the negatives to dating a vampire: you're the only one to age, you can't have children, and the constant bloodlust he must feel from just being around her. At first, it seemed like she succeeded in driving a wedge between them, but it was all a show.

I don't know how long Katherine is going to stick around, but I am really loving the drama. Are you guys as intrigued by Mason as I am? Looking forward to the old-but-now-new rivalry between Mason and Damon?
