Too Much of a Good Thing: Enchanted

According to PopCrunch, Disney is gearing up for Enchanted 2. I loved loved loved Enchanted, but I am definitely not looking forward to a sequel if this makes its way to the screen. Disney has a very poor reputation when it comes sequels - sacrificing creativity and storytelling to cash in on the franchise quickly and cheaply. Besides Toy Story 2, can you name a Disney sequel that you enjoyed?

  1. I would consider this as just rumor until confirmed by Disney. Also, it's "Toon Disney Studios" the direct-to-video sub-division of Disney that (used) to make shitty sequels just for money. Now that John Lasseter is in charge of everything though, I would forget all past history because since John has taken over all film and attraction production, there has not been anything of poor quality released or created. And it definitely won't be Toon Disney Studios making this movie, they are responsible for all the Tinker Bell stuff these days. In response to your question though, Lion King 1 and a 1/2 is decent and I hear Brother Bear 2 is ok...also High School Musical 2 and 3. Or we could go live-action old school: Return to Witch Mountain, Davey Crockett and the River Pirates, original Herbie movies, ect. Disney once had a rich history of live action sequels but animated sequels have only been a recent development of the last 10 years, remnants of the money-hungry Eisner era. But that time is over. And Iger and Lasseter are doing everything they can to change this reputation (Toy Story 2 and 3, Cars 2, Tron Legacy)and return Disney back to Walt's roots. I have full confidence that they can make a quality Enchanted sequel (making a new Disney princess franchise was always part of the plan for Enchanted). In any event, if they get Amy Adams and Alan Menken on board, there is no possible way Enchanted 2 is going to be anything like Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time....and anticipating a new Menken soundtrack is enough for me!

  2. If Menken is on board than I am totally in. I just have such a bad taste in my mouth still from all those direct-to-dvd animated sequels. I have heard Lion King 1 1/2 is good, but I haven't seen it. I saw Lion King 2 and that was enough for me. I'm so glad Lasseter is in control, you can definitely see the changes are working. Under the old regime, Princess & the Frog would have never been made. And if he's bringing the same level of quality to each and every sequel, then I'll definitely be a fan.

  3. The time of direct-to-dvd sequels is over. Rejoice and give thanks. It's not like anyone cared about them ever anyway...they were just used as time fillers at cheap day cares.
