The Old Spice Guy Wants to be Luke Cage

If there's one thing Isaiah Mustafa knows, it's viral marketing. After hitting it big with the Old Spice campaign, he's launched his own in an attempt to be cast as the Marvel Comics hero, Luke Cage.

From Blastr:

In the ultimate fan-made video, a strange clip has emerged online disguised as a teaser for the promised Luke Cage/Power Man project to be directed by John Singleton. Tyrese Gibson has reportedly been attached to the film for the past year, but there have been no official announcements on final casting yet, so the lead prize is technically still up for grabs.
It's been no secret that the hunky Old Spice commercial actor has been campaigning hard for the movie, dressing up like Luke Cage for a photo shoot, and strutting around comic conventions in his best Luke Cage muscle t-shirt, studded belt and sly grimace. Now he's created a short promo video that mimics a polished trailer. Give that man an "A" for ambition.

Check out the trailer after the break.

Ke$ha's "Blow" Music Video with James Van Der Memes

This music video is all kinds of awesome ridiculousness with James Van Der Beek, unicorn people, and rainbow laser guns. Yeah, take a second to reread that. JUST WATCH:

If you're wondering where the heck James Van Der Beek has been, he's been keeping busy between TV guest spots on shows (like How I Met Your Mother) by creating a slew of viral memes at JamesVanDerMemes.com and working with Funny or Die on some hilarious videos like DILF Khakis:

He's been making a splash on twitter (@vanderjames) and even took over the @funnyordie feed for a while. He's really got the viral internet thing on lock, which I guess explains how the Ke$ha video happened. Why else would he be there?

For more insight into his role and just how he got to this place in his career, check out this interview he did with EW's Popwatch blog.

Office Space: The Musical

Don't worry, this isn't real, but I would totally watch it if it was. This little video was created to promote the Blu-Ray release of the film, which you can buy on Amazon by clicking the link below.

How I Met Your Mother: The Beer Ad They Couldn't Air

This season is already leaps and bounds better than last season, which was the weakest in the show's history.

I for one am a fan of Barney/Robin getting back together. I wasn't a fan of them getting together and breaking up the first time around, but the writers have done a much better job of making their connections believable, the slow build up is working. Last time they got together so slowly with very little emotional foundation for it to make sense. And then they broke up at what seemed like a drop of a hat. This time each episode seems to have a little moment between them that further proves their compabatibility and attraction. The fans seem to be pretty split on this issue, and how you feel about their potential recoupling really affects your enjoyment of this season.

Anyways, watch the latest viral video, a beer commercial that couldn't air on TV:

Chuck's Jeffster vs. Halo: Reach

Last season ended with Jeff and Lester on the lamb, suspected of blowing up the Buy More. While I'm not sure how big their roles will be in Season 4, they do have their own web series for the time being. It follows Jeffster on the run, but risking it all to get their hands on the new Halo game, Halo: Reach.

While it serves as an extended Halo: Reach commercial, I'm not bothered as long as it's entertaining and true to the characters. IGN announced the series, but you can watch a sneak peak of the web series below.

Windows 7 Loves the Double Rainbow

You know you've made it when you're no longer just an internet meme and have jumped into mainstream media. Smart of Windows 7 to pick up on this so quickly and produce a commercial before it gets even older and overdone.

Linkulous: MacGruber, Shit My Dad Says, Lost Posters, World Cup and more!

Happy Friday! Below are some great articles I read over the week covering topics from Nike's World Cup ad to Lost to the stories behind viral videos and a whole bunch more. Enjoy the reads and have a great holiday weekend!

How 'MacGruber' Fell Victim to the SNL Curse - I thought it was really funny and should be seen, but this explains just why SNL movies are such bombs nowadays.

First Look: “Shit My Dad Says” pilot - Starring Shatner and based on a twitter profile, it sounds like the perfect geek hybrid of the old and new.  I just hope it's actually funny.

Lost Series Finale a Twitter Earthquake - The most talked about show on twitter, by far.

Iron Man 2: Augmented Reality App

For this year's early summer blockbuster, 'IRON MAN 2', Paramount has delivered an Augmented Reality campaign allowing users to see themselves wearing the Iron Man and War Machine masks. Paramount delivered a similar for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen but took this opportunity to really extend the technology.

This time round the AR experience allows users to see the HUD view that Tony has when he is Iron Man plus have a conversation with Jarvis using quotes from the movie.

But most importantly, as we live in an embeddable, shareable world, Paramount wanted to make sure the user could easily record and share themselves as Iron Man so the tech was integrated to ensure the whole experience can now be recorded and saved to social networks or to their own computer.

While this looks awesome, I am sad that we don't have this technology in our every day lives yet. This is 2010, where's my holographic computing system?!

Iron Man 2: Cordco

Check out the latest viral video for Iron Man 2! As you've seen in the trailers, an important scene in the film centers around the Tony Stark Expo 2010. This clip shows a demonstration from Cordco, one of the many companies exhibiting at the event.

Here's what Cordco has to say about the video:

This film was recorded earlier this year at an exclusive presentation in Melbourne, Australia to demonstrate a civilian application to what has to date been exclusively military technology.

'Better living through technology' will be at the heart of the Stark Expo which Tony Stark himself opens in 21 days time from now, in New York.

Interesting stuff; I can't wait to see how it fits into the film. That new non-weaponry technology is sure to the be highlight of the Expo.

    Viral Marketing: Sherlock Holmes

I love campaigns like this! They're interactive and give the hardcore fans something to participate in and look forward to. They aren't the most effective of campaigns, usually just making the hardcore fans happy and then going unnoticed by the rest of the population, but sometimes they can catch like wildfire.

I signed up for this, and hopefully you will too. We can go on this Sherlock Holmes information chase together.
