Beauty and the Beast 3D trailer

When Disney re-released THE LION KING in 3D, I was wary because it didn't need to be converted to the new medium to be a good movie. It's a timeless classic that I would have preferred to see on the big screen in 2D, in bright vibrant color. Luckily, there were a few theaters that did that! I'm hoping BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will have the same sort of release in 2012.

It's one of my favorite Disney films and I am glad that it's getting reintroduced to a new generation, even if it means a not entirely necessary post-conversion to 3D. Catch the trailer after the break.

Michael Fassbender Knows His Wangs

This is a slight NSFW video, so if you're sitting at your office desk just bookmark this for later. You don't want to miss it, but you definitely don't want to get caught by your boss watching it!

MTV's After Hours apparently has a segment called "Members Only" where they have celebrities try to guess the male celebs in the movie screen shots, based just off the penis in the frame. Surprisingly, Fassbender does really well! It's the banter and guessing that really make this video. "You know that penis" and pretty much all the comments around Viggo Mortensen's picture are the best!

Watch the video after the break.

IMMORTALS is the best new release this week

Today is 11/11/11 and there was a big marketing push around that for a few movies, particularly IMMORTALS. But what else came out today? Apparently, not much in terms of quality...

J. Edgar has the pedigree with Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood involved. However, the reviews have been pretty mixed, given that caliber of talent.

Jack and Jill is so obviously terrible that I really don't need to get into it here.

And that leaves IMMORTALS. I saw it a couple weeks ago and while it's not a great Greek epic and certainly doesn't live up to 300, it was definitely an enjoyable watch thanks to some stellar visuals, amazing 3D, and visionary fight scenes. You can ready my full review on NapiersNews.com.

And for those of my readers who are also fans of The Vampire Diaries, the evil king's sniveling sidekick is TVD's Klaus! He's way better at being evil than being evil's sidekick though. I was pretty disappointed he didn't get a chance to really shine - he was basically the movie's punching bag throughout.

If you see IMMORTALS this weekend, let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Trailer: THE AVENGERS kick butt!

OMG guys, this looks so good! I've been amped for this for who knows how long and just watch it already because it's awesome!

Music Monday: A Real Hero by College featuring Electric Youth (from the DRIVE soundtrack)

Last night I finally got around to seeing the new Ryan Gosling, Nicolas Refn flick DRIVE. This movie has been super hyped since it hit the festival circuit, and then really impressed at their San Diego Comic-Con panel with FilmDistrict.

While I enjoyed the movie, it definitely suffered a bit from all the endless praise it's been getting. With the bar set so high, it's hard for any film to reach that level. I do definitely recommend it, as it is a film that needs to be seen, but don't let the praise get ahead of you.

I won't go too much into the film here (maybe I'll get around to reviewing it here later), but you do need to hear the main song from the film. It's a fantastic soundtrack that's so unique and just fits with the film so well.

Listen to A Real Hero by College after the break and if you saw DRIVE, let me know what you thought of it in the comments.

BEING ELMO's First Trailer Melts Your Heart

Everyone grew up watching Sesame Street, but only a handful of people grow up to not only be on the show, but truly impact its direction and characters. BEING ELMO has already melted my heart with just the trailer, so I can only imagine the joy I'll get from watching it in theaters.

It got rave reviews across the board after it's debut at Sundance and has been crushing it at all the subsequent film festivals. It's won too many Jury Awards for me to list here!

Watch the trailer and see the official synopsis after the break.

Music Monday: No One Believes Me by Kid Cudi (for the FRIGHT NIGHT soundtrack)

FRIGHT NIGHT opens this Friday and if you're in to truly villainous vampires instead of the soft, romantic ones from TWILIGHT, this flick is right up your alley. For the film's soundtrack, Kid Cudi cut this moody track and filmed a great companion video to the film. Check out the video after the break and stay tuned for my film review for GeekTyrant!

THE HELP opens in theaters today

With Gordon and the Whale closing its digital doors this month, I've found a new writing home at GeekTyrant and just posted my first review there! I saw THE HELP last week and really loved the "controversial" story. Watch the trailer after the break and then go read my review!

SDCC: THE DARKEST HOUR was my favorite footage from the entire con

THE DARKEST HOUR was that hidden gem in the coal mine that is San Diego Comic-Con. In a weekend filled with KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM, TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL, and of course THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, the trailer and production talk stood out the most for me. You can check out my full thoughts on their private presentation on Gordon and the Whale, but watch the trailer right here:

SDCC: My interview with Jason Momoa and Rachel Nichols from CONAN THE BARBARIAN

This epic definitely isn't for everyone, but if you're in to sword fights, mythological creatures, and lots of action then CONAN THE BARBARIAN is for you. Watch the trailer here:

Then go read my roundtable interview with stars Jason Momoa and Rachel Nichols on Gordon and the Whale.

SDCC: TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL's Alan Tudyck and Tyler Labine chat with me for Gordon and the Whale

If you're reading this blog, you already know I'm a big Joss Whedon, and therefore Firefly fan. So when I got the opportunity to interview Alan Tudyck (aka Wash) for his new feature TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL, you can bet I wasn't going to miss it.

You can read my exclusive interview with him and his co-star Tyler Labine (from Reaper and GOOD OLD FASHIONED ORGY) over on Gordon and the Whale. Also, be sure you check out the hilarious trailer here:

SDCC: Ryan Gosling knows how to do one thing...DRIVE

This explosive film starring Ryan Gosling as a stunt driver, alongside Carey Mulligan, Ron Perlman, and directed by Nicolas Refn was the belle of the ball at Cannes. Hopefully after their Comic-Con panel, they can reach a broader audience.

Check out the red band trailer here:

More Drive (2011) Videos

You can read a full recap of the DRIVE and DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK panel on Gordon and the Whale.

SDCC: KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM looks absolutely hilarious

I checked out the panel at Comic-Con this year and the trailer was so hilarious that it just deserves its own post. Watch it now!

For a full recap of their panel and the press conference I attended, check out my post on Gordon and the Whale.

SDCC: IN TIME one of the best surprises of Comic-Con so far

I wasn't really sure what to expect of IN TIME, but their comic-con trailer really piqued my interest. Check out the trailer:

You can read more about it in my Gordon and the Whale post here.

FIRST TRAILER: The Amazing Spider-Man

Now, I love the first SPIDER-MAN and was a little miffed that they're "rebooting" it so soon, but this trailer looks pretty sweet to me!

Good Deal: THE GODFATHER - THE COPPOLA RESTORATION GIFTSET on Blu-Ray for $54.99

This great box set is marked down $70 on Amazon right now! Do I really need to explain why this is such a great movie and buy?

Good Deal: The SCREAM Trilogy on Blu-Ray for $9.49 each

When SCRE4M came out last month, I re-watched all the SCREAM films in preparation and it was a blast from the past. The first film is a new-classic horror film, being a commentary on horror film tropes while simultaneously joining the ranks of the films it critiques. The follow ups never live up to how smart it is and sometimes drown in their own desire to be just as creative, but they are still fun to watch in their own right.

You can buy them all on Blu-Ray from Amazon now for only $9.49 each below.
