Jizz in My Pants: TWILIGHT Edition!

In "honor" of BREAKING DAWN's release tomorrow, enjoy this hilarious video of The Lonely Island/SNL's "Jizz in my Pants." I love the facial expressions they got of Bella and Edward! Are you planning on seeing TWILIGHT this weekend?

Music Monday: Chomp and Change by The Black Keys

The Black Keys are blowing up the rock stations here in LA, with their new track "I'm Howling For You." While it's a great song, my favorite track of theirs is "Chomp & Change" which I originally heard off the TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE soundtrack (yeah, I am not ashamed!).

(Delayed) Music Monday: Chomp & Change by The Black Keys

Sorry for missing this week's Music Monday! Here's a late one to make up for it. Between getting ready for Comic Con, preparing for the road trip, and being newly unemployed, I kind of lost track of time!

This is definitely my favorite song off the Twilight Eclipse soundtrack. It's bluesy sound doesn't fit with the other tracks, which makes me love it even more everytime it comes up when I'm listening to the soundtrack.

Edwards Loves Verizon

I love when commercials have a sense of humor, even more so when they relate to pop culture and timeliness.

SNL: Taylor Lautner

SNL pandered to the tweens this weekend by having Taylor Lautner, that hot baby, host. The show wasn't great, but there were some hilarious moments. I mainly blame the writing, not Taylor's ability.

I love the line about the Oscars! This wasn't the Edward/Jacob skit I was expecting, but it was pretty funny.

I thought this was funny at first, but it just went on for too long. Much like the PGA Tour announcements. Funny at first, but they killed it by not knowing when to stop.

What did you guys think of his hosting gig? Did I leave out your favorite moment? The biggest let down for me? The fact that he kept his shirt on for the full episode.

Weekend Movies 11/20

I spent last weekend mostly spending time in the movie theater. Exactly how I love spending my weekends! Here's my thoughts on the movies I saw this weekend.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Ok, I like my vampire media. Just to give you an idea: I'm rewatching Buffy and Angel with the roommates, loving Vampire Diaries and True Blood, and read all the Twilight books. But I hated the first Twilight movie. Twilight was just a blue, poorly shot, poorly acted mess. The only way I got through that movie was with two glasses of wine. And I'm not the only one. While it racked in the dough, it scored a lackluster 49% on Rotten Tomatoes. I was abroad when it came out, so I completely missed the madness and didn't quite get it. Then I came back and fell into the books and now I'm one of the people who contributed to its $140+ million box office weekend.

I saw it Friday night and got in line for the screening about 2 hours before the show started. The line was stereotypically mostly young women, but there were a few groups of guys seeing it (to pick up young chicks? Fans of Taylor Lautner's abs? Who knows.) Watching it with such a fanatical crowd was really the highlight. The girls screaming when Taylor Lautner takes off his shirt, the one girl who let out a lustful "oooh my godddd" when Bella and Jacob hugged, and the chorus of "NOOOOOO"s when it ended - the mania totally makes the experience better.

The movie itself, not so great but not terrible either. It was way better than the first, overall. Shot better, marginally better acting, and the dialogue was way less clunky (see: "Hop on my back, spidermonkey!"). The best parts were when they weren't talking, though. The chase scene in the woods and the fight in Italy were really well done - I loved how they played around with time to show just how fast they move. The ending was a nice change from the book; it makes the audience want to see "Eclipse" all the sooner. And we don't have to wait long, "Eclipse" comes out June 30, 2010. If New Moon makes that much money in November, I don't even know what the next one will make as a summer blockbuster.

2012
This movie clocks in at nearly 3 hours, but it did not feel like that at all to me. The beginning, where they're introducing the characters and trying to make us care for them, was slow and didn't really pull me in. But that's not why we see these types of movies is it? I went for the spectacle and boy did it deliver! The sheer scale of it all and immediacy of the diaster had my heart pumping. Plus, I LOVED that little dog. Yay, Japanese Shins! The deaths at the end seemed a little rushed and unecessary, but otherwise a pretty solid action flick to tide us over until the summer blockbuster season.

The Blind Side
I went in this movie expecting to come out a bawling mess. The trailer alone had me in tears! But, while it was emotional and touching and great story, it never packed that emotional punch that would have turned me into a weepy mess. It was a great inspirational family story. I wouldn't categorize it as a sports movie though, since there's a total of maybe 10 minutes of football footage in the film. The focus is on Mike and Leanne (Sandra Bullock) and how this relationship changed both their lives. They both put in great performances (Sandra Bullock for Best Actress?) and it was a really well paced movie that didn't drag its feet in the melodrama. It's gotten good reviews from the critics, and even as an A+ from audience exit polls on CinemaScope. If this movie can keep its legs and gross some big money, along with a big push from Warner Bros. I could definitely see Sandra Bullock getting some award recognition for the role.

Did you guys see any movies this weekend? What'd you think?

As I mentioned before, Taylor Swift hosted SNL this weekend. Here's my favorite skit of the night. The Digital Shorts are usually the best parts of the show.

New Moon Soundtrack Leaked!

UPDATE: videos and songs have been taken down. No big surprise there. I hope you got the hear it while it was up!

Listen to a few of the leaked tracks here, while you can!

You can listen to a few more at Stereogum. The more I hear of it, the more I want the whole soundtrack. Good thing they moved up the release of the album to this Friday 10/16!

Meet Me at the Equinox

Check out Death Cab's new song, the first single from the New Moon soundtrack! I'm kind of disappointed with the video - it's basically just clips from the trailer intercut with the band. I feel like it could have been another venue for new clips for the movie, giving the Twilight fans even more reason to watch the video than to just listen to the song and not pay attention to the artists.

New Moon Soundtrack

Stephenie Meyer just released the list of songs that will be on New Moon Soundtrack! For me, the best of Twilight was the soundtrack. And while the New Moon looks better based on just the trailer below, the soundtrack still looks like it could be the best part should nothing else pan out.

Check out the trailer:

Soundtrack listing:
  • DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE — MEET ME ON THE EQUINOX (You can listen to this at their myspace page)
  • BAND OF SKULLS — FRIENDS
  • THOM YORKE — HEARING DAMAGE
  • LYKKE LI — POSSIBILITY
  • THE KILLERS — A WHITE DEMON LOVE SONG
  • ANYA MARINA — SATELLITE HEART
  • MUSE — I BELONG TO YOU (NEW MOON REMIX)
  • BON IVER & ST. VINCENT — ROSYLN
  • BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB — DONE ALL WRONG
  • HURRICANE BELLS — MONSTERS
  • SEA WOLF — THE VIOLET HOUR
  • OK GO — SHOOTING THE MOON
  • GRIZZLY BEAR — SLOW LIFE
  • EDITORS — NO SOUND BUT THE WIND
  • ALEXANDRE DESPLAT — NEW MOON (THE MEADOW)
These are all original songs or songs remixed for the soundtrack. I think that's such a smart idea that will help the soundtrack sell even more. In a day where we live off the single song purchase thanks to iTunes, Twilight is giving us a reason to buy the whole CD.

Too Much of a Good Thing: Vampires

We all know what Twilight is. We all know what True Blood is. You can't turn around today without seeing something vampire related! And this is just the beginning! This fall The CW rolls out The Vampire Diaries:

This is also a book adaption, and it looks to be very similar to Twilight - human girl moves to a new town, falls for a vampire, how will this work out?!

Then later this year, we have Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant:

Also based on a book, but the book is part of a whole series that follows this circus. Figures they'd focus on the vampire aspect given the times. I think it looks interesting, and it's a nice change that the vampire isn't a hot young thing for once.

I see why studios want to capitalize on the trend, but soon this will burn out and there will be a bunch of projects in various stages of development or distribution that will no longer have an audience.

Now, there may be a lot of content out there on vampires, but I know I'm going to be watching some of it. I grew up on Buffy and Angel, it's pretty much ingrained in me. But I think I'll be reserving my vampire love to True Blood, loving the trash of Twilight, and rewatching the classics (Buffy and Angel) on DVD.

What will you guys be watching?

What vampire content are you in to? What projects are you looking forward to?

The Replacements

It always bothers me when TV shows or movie series recast important characters midway through their run. The latest example of this is the announcement that Rachelle Lefevre won't be playing Victoria in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She will instead be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard. The reasoning for this is, supposedly, scheduling conflicts, but it seems to me that Summit Entertainment just wanted to save themselves some money by casting a different redhead.I can understand why they'd want to do that, from a financial standpoint it makes all the sense in the world. But this kind of recasting can hurt fan loyalty. I'm not a big Twilight person, so I don't take this change to heart. But I'm sure, with this fandom in particular, I'm sure some fans will be upset by this change. What bothers me is that it insults the audience's intelligence that we wouldn't notice the physical changes. Also, the audience always has the other performance in mind so it distracts from the actual show; we're too busy comparing how the different actors treated the same role. At least, these are my problems with recasting mid-role.

Are you guys bothered by this?

Here are a few more examples of recasting:

Terrance Howard vs. Don Cheadle in the Iron Man franchise:

Alica Goranson vs. Sarah Chalke in Roseanne:

Can you guys think of more that bothered you?

UPDATE via Perez Hilton:

Rachelle's words about the replacement
“I was fully committed to the ‘Twilight’ saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria. I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules. My commitment to ‘Barney’s Version’ is only ten days. Summit picked up my option for ‘Eclipse.’ Although the production schedule for ‘Eclipse’ is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for ‘Eclipse,’ never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10 day overlap. I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part. I am greatly saddened that I will not get to complete my portrayal of Victoria for the ‘Twilight’ audience. This is a story, a theatrical journey and a character that I truly love and about which I am very passionate. I will be forever grateful to the fan support and loyalty I’ve received since being cast for this role, and I am hurt deeply by Summit’s surprising decision to move on without me. I wish the cast and crew of ‘Eclipse’ only the very best."

Harry Potter vs. Twilight

With the Harry Potter release tonight at midnight, it's got the world abuzz with anticipation. Harry Potter is set to be the most successful movie franchise ever, and we've still got 2 more movies after this one! But one new concern is whether Harry Potter will continue to succeed now that there's a new hot teen drama on the scene, one that feels a bit more grown up.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is when the young wizards and witches start taking notice of each other, romantically. You have crushes and dating and a fair bit of "snogging"! However, this is strongly encroaching on the niche Twilight has set up for itself - the sexy side of teen interests. The books have already started the battle, but Harry Potter is still winning with 60% of all 9-11 year olds in the US having read the books. But as they grow up and hit 13-15 and older, the romance and angst in Twilight take hold. Check out this article in the Wall Street Journal for more facts and figures on the matter.

While Twilight crashed on the scene with its $70 million opening weekend, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is poised to be the biggest movie EVER, hopefully beating out Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and maybe even The Dark Knight. It has the potential to break all the records: PG rating makes it fun for the whole family, IMAX and IMAX 3D screenings, and the foundation of one of the best selling book and movie franchises in history. If Harry Potter doesn't come out on top, I honestly don't know what will. My 5 day box office estimate: $205 million, beating out Transformers $200.1 million. I'd guess higher, but it's going to suffer from the lack of IMAX theaters it has until it takes over all the ones Transformers occupies until the week after next.

So readers, which is your teen epic of choice? Do you think Harry Potter can top Transformers?
